Thank you Kathy Niklwicz for pointing out that this pattern is actually from the book "Christmas Angels & Other Tatting Patterns" by Monica Hahn. Phew I finally found the pattern! It sure takes an experienced Tatter to spot it where the design comes from.

Is the edging done in one pass? Clever. And pretty. How about Black Magic lace for your dress?
ReplyDeleteHi Jane, Thanks but I do not understand what you mean by "one pass". This edging was done with shuttle and ball thread.
ReplyDeleteYes the Black Magic pattern would be nice. With work schedule getting heavy, I may not have time to make the lace for my dress. Therefore may consider buying laces, cut them and sew them onto the back. Let's see.
I recognize this pattern as one in Monica Hahn's Christmas Angels and Other Tatting Patterns, and it's called 'Grapevine'. I wonder if you saw it there rather than in Julia Sanders' book.
ReplyDeleteI've enjoyed looking through your blog and seeing all your wonderful tatted pieces, plus some beautiful painted items! And you also knit!
Hi Kathy, you are right! It takes an experienced tatter to recognise the pattern. Thank you so much coz I have been looking everywhere for this pattern. Really appreciate it. Thanks also for your compliments on my blog.
ReplyDeleteI'm so glad I could help! I became familiar with that Monica Hahn pattern because I remember thinking when I bought the book (back in the early 90s) that although the edging is called 'Grapevine', the motifs also looked like hearts. I tatted many of the individual 'hearts' in red or white thread to decorate various items.
ReplyDeleteI also tatted three of these 'hearts' in green to form a shamrock, shown in my post of March 15, 2010, where I discussed this motif; so the pattern is quite familiar to me!
Sweet angel! The beads must add some shine too, good idea.
